Darkness Begins To Take Hold

#MeToo has changed the way the world see’s women’s dignity. It is more than women’s rights…it is individual dignity of anyone who is abused by those more powerful. In an article by David Weigel in the Washington Post (121017), the case has been made by three individual Senators that the President of the United States must resign because of the accusations of women who have said the the man in the White House has sexually abused them prior to his taking office.

Weigel writes, ‘Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and two of his Democratic colleagues have suggested that President Trump should consider resigning, after a run of sexual-harassment scandals has driven out some members of Congress.

Sen. Al Franken “felt it proper for him to resign,” Sanders said in an interview with NBC’sMeet the Press” Sunday morning (121017), referring to the Democrat from Minnesota. “Here you have a president who has been accused by many women of assault, who says on a tape that he assaulted women. He might want to think about doing the same.”

Sanders’s comment, which built on a tweet he sent last week, came after Democratic Sens. Jeff Merkley (Ore.) and Cory Booker (N.J.) suggested that the “#MeToo moment” should prompt another look at the women who accused Trump of sexual harassment during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“The president should resign because he certainly has a track record with more than 17 women of horrific conduct,” Merkley said last week in an interview for the weekday version of “Meet the Press.”’

Perhaps it won’t be Russia that brings down this President.

Perhaps it will be the women who have begun the #MeToo movement in this country.

After all, women make up 50.2% of the population of the United States. Seventy (70%) are of voting age.

Poll numbers continue to come in on the low side, and a recent survey conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute suggests that women are more apt to be less approving of the president.

When asked whether the President should be impeached, 47% of female respondents said yes, while only 32% of the men involved answered the question in affirmative terms.

In fact, NPR reports that “women are a big reason why his approval rating is so low, Gallup data show. Women approve of the President far less than they have approved of any other president at this point in his administration in at least the last 64 years, according to data collected since Dwight Eisenhower was in the White House.”
